The article, <a href=\"https:\/\/nextbillion.net\/news\/ebay-launches-its-own-micro-lending-site\/\" title=\"EBay: The Place for Microfinance\">EBay: The Place for Microfinance<\/a>, speaks of  eBay&#8217;s 2006 acquisition of <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20070804065317\/http:\/\/www.microplace.com\/\" title=\"MicroPlace.com\">MicroPlace.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>MicroPlace.com&#8217;s mission is &#8220;to help alleviate global poverty by enabling everyday people to make investments in the world&#8217;s working poor.&#8221; Pretty impressive.<\/p>\n<p>Pierre Omidyar, eBay&#8217;s founder, is also an investor in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiva.org\" title=\"Kiva.org\">Kiva.org<\/a>, which is a similar site for investing small amounts of money to entrepreneurs in developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>MicroPlace.com fits eBay&#8217;s direction so nicely, and takes advantage of their infrastructure to do good in the world. Nice to see big players enabling Microfinance and bringing it to the masses.
